(TresRios, Canadá, Agosto 2 de 2012) El piloto nacional Sebastián Saavedra se propone buscar el mejor resultado posible y la mayor cantidad de puntos para conseguir nuevamente el liderato del campeonato Indy Lights que compite este fin de semana en Tres Rios, Provincia de Quebec, Canadá. La carrera se realizará en un circuito callejero el próximo domingo, y tanto Sebastián como el equipo Andretti Autosport están preparados para la antepenúltima válida del campeonato.
Con podio en la carrera anterior, Sebastián logró subir al segundo escaño del campeonato detrás del argentino Esteban Guerrieri aventajando en solo 27 puntos, coincidencialmente el número del auto de Sebastián.
“Llegamos muy fuertes de las carrera anteriores también en Canadá” -Comentó Saavedra- “Tenemos que mantenernos en el buen trabajo y buscar una victoria en lo que queda de la temporada. Mucha expectativa porque nunca he competido en esta pista pero estoy muy positivo por lo que podemos lograr. Estuve probando en el simulador y parece ser una pista con muchos sobresaltos y de gran exigencia física; perfecta para mi equipo. El campeonato está mas apretado que nunca y parece que seguirá así hasta la última vuelta en Fontana (última valida), por lo que es clave hacer buenos puntos en estas últimas carreras”
La primera sesión de prácticas será el viernes a las 13:10 y la segunda el sábado a las 07:25. El sábado tendremos la clasificación con nuevo formato, parecido a la Fórmula 1 y esquema que se aplica en ciertas ocasiones con la Indycar: A las 13:30 del sábado saldrán a girar los autos y los mejores 6 tendrán enseguida una sesión para definir la pole position. La carrera arrancará a las 12:45 el domingo 5 pero no habrá transmisión en vivo sino en diferido por ESPN 3. Todos los horarios son en hora de Colombia. |

8.1.2012 (Via Kate Guerra, IndyCar.com) – It wasn’t long ago that AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport was the team to beat in Firestone Indy Lights.
JR Hildebrand had four wins and five pole positions en route to the 2009 championship for the team, and the previous season Raphael Matos took the title. After watching Sam Schmidt Motorsports take the titles in 2010 and 2011, Sebastian Saavedra has a chance to put the partnership of AFS Racing and Andretti Autosport at the top again.
After spending most of 2011 with Conquest Racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series, Saavedra returned to Firestone Indy Lights with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport as the full-time driver of the No. 27 car and the team’s official test and reserve driver for its IZOD IndyCar series program.
He jumped out to a strong start with three consecutive podium finishes and a win at Barber Motorsports Park. He’s currently second in the standings, 27 points behind Sam Schmidt Motorsports’ Esteban Guerrieri, heading into the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Quebec this weekend.
“It's been a very consistent season for the No. 27 AFS/AA car,” Saavedra said. “I knew it wasn't going to be an easy championship with the Sam Schmidt Motorsports cars being as strong as they've been the last couple years. I've never stopped giving my 100 percent out there.”
Guerrieri won the rain-soaked race in 2011, leading from flag-to-flag and setting the outright lap record at 58.5076 seconds in qualifying.
Saavedra missed last season’s event while competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series, so this will be his first time competing at Trois Rivieres. However, data from his team and word from fellow drivers has him prepared for the 60-lap race.

(Indianápolis, Julio 27 de 2012) ¡EXTRA!. En una invitación de último momento, el piloto colombiano Sebastián Saavedra competirá en la categoría Rolex Grand-Am Series a bordo de un Chevrolet Corvette en compañía del australiano James Davison, en la mítica pista de Indianápolis. Saavedra actualmente es segundo en la categoría Indy-Lights con 324 puntos, autos muy diferentes a este Corvette que milita en la subcategoría GranTurismo y en el circuito cruzado al interior de Indianápolis, usando solo una parte del superóvalo de 2.5 millas; El trazado es el mismo que corría la fórmula 1 y Sebastián lo giró en 2006 en el marco de la Fórmula BMW y desde entonces no lo ha probado. En el mismo circuito estará el también colombiano Juan Pablo Montoya pero compitiendo en la categoría prototipos Daytona.
Saavedra manifestó a través de su vocería de prensa:
“No hay nada mejor que tener un fin de semana libre y correr en el circuito de Indianápolis. Recibí una llamada el jueves en la noche de James Davison preguntándome si quería, y no me tomó mucho tiempo decidirlo. Será un reto para nosotros porque tendremos solo 30 minutos para adaptarnos al auto, reconocer el circuito (en el que no giro desde 2006) y además trabajar en puesta a punto. Me emociona esta experiencia y quiero agradecer a Mike Baughman y todo el equipo MBR Racing Team por la experiencia.”
La carrera dará inicio a las 15:00 hora de Colombia, tendrá una duración de tres horas y será transmitida en vivo por Speed Channel Latinoamérica. (Claro, Une y DirecTV) |

INDIANAPOLIS (July 26, 2012) – Colombian Sebastian Saavedra will pair with Australian James Davison for Friday’s Grand-Am race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 22-year-old will be making his first Grand-Am start with Corvette team Mike Baughman Racing in the #46 machine. Saavedra is currently second in the Firestone Indy Lights point standings, 24 points behind Esteban Guerrieri. He has finished on the podium in six out of nine races so far this season and recorded a win at the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. He raced in this year’s Indianapolis 500 with AFS Racing/Andretti Autosport, where he recorded a 26th-place finish. The Grand Prix of Sonoma on August 26 will mark his second IZOD IndyCar Series start of the 2012 season. Saavedra and Davison battled against one another in the Firestone Indy Lights championship in 2009 and have been good friends ever since. Friday’s race is the first for the Grand-Am Series on the IMS road course, in advance of Sunday’s Brickyard 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup event.

I got a call Tuesday evening from James Davison asking if I wanted to do it and it didn't take too long to make the decision. It'll be a challenge for both of us as we will each only have 30 minutess to get used to the car, know the track (which we haven't been in since 2006 in Formula BMW.) and still work on the car.
